Sentimental and Patriotic Home in Stafford, Virginia

By Muller Design Co in Fredericksburg, Virginia

Assignment:

A 70+ year old home is acquired by a special grandson. His goal is to make the re-built structure as close to the home he remembers, with some adjustments for current day living. This is his family’s home away from home and the collected memories here are the most important elements that drive the design. Also, the home is quite tiny, and requires a sensitive eye for design and what fits.

Style:

The new homeowner is certain of the ideas and pieces that must go inside. He curates lists and photos to show the team what made this home special and memorable. It needs to nod to the past, but be comfortable and welcoming to his extended family today.

Wishlist:

Memories everywhere. Handmade signs, antiques, and slipcovered and hand-built items preferred. Photos everywhere.

Scope:

The design team tackles the project as soon as the homeowner finishes major re-construction. The swoop in to re-paint, put in bath fixtures, hardware, and plan all of the furnishings and accessories.

Timeframe:

2-3 months, just in time for a long-overdue family reunion.

Cost:

$30,000 budget plus design and project management fees.

The Details

There are too many meaningful details to mention! Muller Design ordered hand lettered signs, sourced meaningful furniture, accessories and antiques, created a gallery wall, and added more photos throughout the cottage. Even the namesake sign in the mudroom with created to really mark the celebration of the revived property.

Personal touches

Hand lettered signs made by our friend Sarah Thomas. Everything is so special! Favorite sayings by family members celebrated on signs, and even a hand-painted ore with the family 360 motto!

Behind the scenes…

We even changed and synced all of the light bulbs in the house so it has a warm, soft, comfortable feel.
